Nancy O'Dell began her broadcast career as an anchor and reporter on WPDE-TV in Myrtle Beach South Carolina. Later, she was a morning news anchor and the crime reporter at WCBD TV. Her reporting of the ineffective police response in response to DUI cases in Charleston resulted in an investigation by State Law Enforcement Division, which led to a change in direction from the state authorities on DUI cases. In the year 2000, The Associated Press honored Ms. O'Dell with the Best Report of the Years award in the entirety of South Carolina Media. O'Dell was then employed by the Miami-based NBC station WTVJ-TV as an investigative journalist and anchor, prior to her joining Access Hollywood in the role of co-anchor for the weekend. In addition, she serves as co-anchor for Dateline NBC and NBC News Today. She co-hosted several of Pre-ShowArrivals programs to The Emmys as well as The Golden Globe Awards. In addition, she hosted Miss USA's pageant, as in addition to the Miss Universe Pageant.
